Apparently, it pays to have friends in high places. 38 year old former Conservative (Calgary) MP Rahim Jaffer escaped possible jail time by pleading guilty to careless driving. According to an agreed upon statement of facts, he was pulled over last September for driving 93 km in a 50km zone. After he was pulled over, he failed the breathalyzer and they seized coke found on his person. He was subsequently arrested.

Charges for speeding, drunk driving and possession of cocaine were withdrawn in an Orangeville court March 9th, 2010, because there was no possibility of conviction due to "significant legal issues" impeding the case. Most Conservative MPs broke for cover when grilled about the alleged "Get out of jaill free" provided to Jaffer who, if he were a pleb like us, wouldn't see the front of a car's steering wheel for a very, very long time. Dufferin-Caledon MP Dave Tilson, who's riding has the courthouse where Jaffer pleaded out, stated “it’s the Crown who’s gotta answer”, and refused to engage in any further discussion.

Imagine your craziest night out and getting pinched for drunk and reckless driving with a big old bag of coke in your pocket. Do you think you have any hope in hell you're going to catch a break like this guy did? Or are you going to end up at The Don for a lengthy stay and a few nasty beat-downs.
